In separate incident, woman allegedly steals money after wanting a birthday picture with the greenbacks

Authorities have identified Telly Tomarkens Jones, 38, (no address listed) as the suspect in a shooting death reported on Saturday at a Clinton address. No manner of death or cause of death was immediately announced by authorities, as the investigation is continuing.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office issued this statement:

“On 5/6/2023 at approximately 2:15AM, Deputies responded to Dogwood Circle in Clinton in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a female deceased with a gunshot wound.

“The subject, 38 year old Telly Tomarkens Jones (pictured), turned himself in shortly after. He has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Also, the Laurens County Coroner’s Office issued this statement:

“Per Laurens County Sheriff’s Office ‘On 5/6/2023 at approximately 2:15AM, Deputies responded to Dogwood Circle in Clinton in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a female deceased with a gunshot wound. The subject turned himself in shortly after.’

“Once on scene, Laurens County Deputy Coroner Bailey Williamson identified the deceased as Travet Simpson, a 34 year old female. The cause of death is still pending investigation. We ask that every one join the Laurens County Coroners Office in prayers for this family.”.

Also from LCSO: As previously reported, on Saturday April 15th at approximately 8:25PM, Deputies responded to Coyote Drive in Waterloo in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered three individuals who had been shot and began rendering aid. Darren Mandez Hill of Cross Hill later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

On May 4, 2023 Randall Sherodrick Moore of Waterloo was transferred to the custody of LCSO by Greenwood Police and charged with:

 -Murder

-Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature (2 Counts)

-Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime

-Breach of Peace, Aggravated in Nature.

The Laurens Police Department issued the following statement: ARREST! Taxi cab driver robs man, drags him with car and leaves him on life support fighting for his life. Please say a prayer for the victim in this case. Suspect: Chyanna Latimore was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery and Assault & Battery of a High & Aggravated Nature (ABHAN). She is currently housed in the Laurens County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.  Anyone with any further details on this matter, please contact the Laurens Police Department (Detective Sergeant Billy Sellers) or private message here on Facebook. The Police linked to a WSPA-TV article that said a victim was walking on Shands Street in need of help, who said a suspect who had given him a ride in her vehicle being used as a taxi saw that the victim had a large amount of money as she was dropping him off; she asked to take a picture with the money and, instead, the suspect took the money and drove off, dragging the 30-year-old victim. The article says police suspect that the suspect, Latimore, allegedly took about $2,300 and they were able to recover $1,600 from a person that Latimore was staying with.   

“You don’t ever hear about a taxi-cab driver, or an Uber lift driver committing a crime against someone they’re giving a fare to,” Major Kevin Cox with the Laurens Police Department told the TV station. “… We talked to her more this morning and she basically confessed to wanting to hold the money for her birthday. She said he grabbed the steering wheel once she took his money and (she) drove down the street, didn’t look back.”
