Women's Hoops is a Winner

The Blue Hose will host Coastal Carolina on Sunday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. where fans are encouraged to wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters and children will be able to take pictures with Santa!

DURHAM, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (1-8) took down the NC Central Eagles (0-11) behind Aminata Tal's 21-point season-high and a hard-fought team victory with a final score of 67-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

Natalie Herrin took the first two points of the day as the Blue Hose jumped to an early 6-0 lead. The Eagles answered, scoring seven points before heading to the media timeout with a 7-6 advantage. NC Central was able to extend their lead to 10-7, but Presbyterian didn't back down as Aminata Tal led the charge with five points, regaining a 12-10 lead for PC. Laney ScogginsMorgan Boyd, and Tal added points before the clock expired, extending the Blue Hose's cushion to 20-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The first five points of the second quarter went to the opponents before Paige Kindseth drew a foul and sank both of her shots. Shelby Fiddler's steal led to another bucket from Tal, putting the score at 24-19 at the media timeout. The Eagles cut their deficit to just two-points, but Herrin's three-point play brought the score to 31-26. Over the last minute of the half, Kindseth added four points to send Presbyterian to the halftime break with a 35-28 lead.

Third Quarter

The Blue Hose fed off of their momentum from the first half as the team scored the first five points of the third quarter, led by a three-point play by Kindseth. After two points from the other side, PC took another five points, this time led by Scoggins three-point play, making the score 45-30. Some back-and-forth saw five more points from Tal before Teresa Mbemba's bucket set the score at 52-34. The Eagles were able to cut Presby's lead to 56-44 before the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Despite Anderson's early basket in the final 10 minutes of play, NC Central took the next six points, cutting their deficit to 58-50. The score was pushed to 61-53 before Mbemba's basket at the five-minute mark held PC's 10-point lead. The Eagles were able to cut their deficit to two points, but it wasn't enough to stop the Blue Hose from securing a 67-63 victory on the road.

NOTABLES

- PC recorded season-bests with a 48.1 field goal percentage, 11 steals, and 21 made free throws.

- Tal took a season-high of 21 points while adding four rebounds and a pair of steals.

- Scoggins notched nine rebounds, seven points, and three steals.

- Kindseth recorded 11 points while shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.

- Herrin totaled nine points and three rebounds.
