CLINTON - This fall, Red Devil Nation has something truly special to celebrate. As the 2025 Clinton High School football season kicks off, the community will not only be cheering on Coach Corey Fountain and his defending state champions — we’ll also be honoring the golden anniversary of one of the greatest teams to ever take the field at Wilder Stadium: the 1975 State 3A Champion Clinton Red Devils.
Throughout the 2025 season, the Clinton High School Booster Club, working alongside the CHS Athletic Department, WPCC Clinton Red Devil Radio, and the football program, will lead a season-long celebration of the team that helped cement a tradition still known today as “The Pride of Clinton.”
The 1975 football team will return home for a special reunion weekend on September 5, when the Red Devils make their home debut against Newberry High School at Wilder Stadium. Legendary Hall of Fame coach Keith Richardson, along with members of his staff and players, will be recognized in a special halftime ceremony on Richardson Field. The night promises to be one to remember, as the Boys of ’75 return to cheer on the 2025 Red Devils in their pursuit of back-to-back state championships.
The celebration continues on September 6 with a banquet at Clinton High School at 6:00 p.m., where the 1975 team will be honored once again. More details about the banquet will be announced in the coming weeks.
In tribute to the 1975 champions, this year’s Red Devils will wear a commemorative logo on their helmets all season long. The Game Day Program will also feature a dedicated page each week remembering the historic 1975 season, and WPCC’s Red Devil Radio Broadcast will air a special halftime segment every Friday night. Each Saturday morning at Whiteford’s, the “Red Devil Rewind Show” will also spotlight memories of the ’75 team.
The Clinton Booster Club, itself a proud tradition born in the early 1970s, has played a key role in preserving and celebrating CHS athletics across generations. As Booster Club President Buddy Bridges explained, this year’s celebration is about honoring both tradition and the future of Red Devil football.
From the first day he arrived in Clinton, Coach Fountain made his motto clear: “Respect tradition and build upon it.” With the 2024 state championship fresh in memory and the 2025 season full of promise, Clinton will have two powerful Red Devil teams standing side by side this fall — the legends of 1975 and the champions of today.
This season, the echoes of Wilder Stadium will remind us all of what it means to be a Red Devil. The Pride of Clinton lives on.
