He saved the best for last

Jennings is a PC student-athlete of the week

Posted

Sealing his senior season with a performance that ranks as his all-time best, running back Quante Jennings of the Presbyterian College football team has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.

On a day where the Blue Hose clinched their first six-win season in a full decade, defeated a top-25 opponent for the first time since 2014, and completed an undefeated November for the first time in 22 years, Jennings gobbled up 190 rushing yards and a 3rd-quarter TD to aid in the downfall of #23 Butler.

Carrying the ball 15 times during the victory – PC’s fourth consecutive win to finish the campaign – Jennings produced a personal-high in rushing yards after being honored in a pregame ceremony as part of Senior Day.

His 190 yards are the most in a single game by a Presbyterian running back in the three-year Steve Englehart era, busting up three plays of at least 20 yards (including a game-long 50-yarder).

JENNINGS JACKKNIFES BUTLER

The Blue Hose pounced on top of the Bulldogs – who entered the contest with a 9-2 overall record – with a 14-0 advantage in the second quarter. That was Butler’s largest first-half deficit of the entire season.

However, the visitors struck back with a 20-0 run that bled into the 3rd period, threatening to derail Presby’s upset bid. Coach Englehart’s crew didn’t cower, scoring the game’s next 16 points to regain control.

After PC tied things up at 20 apiece midway through the 3rd, it was Jennings who inserted the tiebreaking touchdown with 4:43 left in the quarter. A 10-yard scamper put Quante in the end zone untouched, and Presbyterian would never trail again.

Jennings was a thorn in Butler’s side all day, lodging an earlier 33-yard run to set up his team’s first touchdown of the contest in the 2nd frame.

SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST

Mostly a supporting player for his college career up until 2024, Jennings tallied team-high’s in carries (91) and rushing yards (634) across his senior stint. He found the end zone four times (all against Pioneer Football League opponents), scoring three TD’s during the four-game winning streak.

His average of 7.0 yards per carry is the best single-season mark of any Presbyterian player since the school turned Division I in the late 2000’s, pouring in 53 yards per game to lead the roster.

Throughout the squad’s season-ending four straight wins, Jennings collected a grand sum of 414 rushing yards (or 65 percent of his yearly total).

The Georgia native surpassed 90 yards in three of those last four meetings, while also catching seven passes during that span for 43 additional yards.
