FOOTBALL IS BACK

Blue Hose to the gridiron Friday & announces schedule

Posted

The Presbyterian College football team will be serving up a sneak preview of what's to come later this year as the annual Blue/White Spring Game looms nearer. Head coach Steve Englehart and the rest of the PC staff will administer the intersquad scrimmage at 6:00 PM Friday, April 11.

PC's roster will be split in half for the event – comprised of one "blue" team versus the opposing "white" – playing four 12-minute quarters at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Gates will open approximately one hour before festivities begin.

Concessions will be available for all attendees next Friday, able to lay eyes on Englehart's product as he approaches his fourth season in charge of the Blue Hose.

Presbyterian ended the 2024 season in sensational fashion, winning their last four encounters and closing the calendar with a home victory over 23rd-ranked Butler 30-27.

Englehart engineered the program's first six-win season in a full decade as PC shattered a PFL-era record with six All-Conference First Team selections.

Incoming sophomore quarterback Collin Hurst was named a top ten finalist for the Jerry Rice Award – given annually to the best freshman player at the FCS level – while he was also chosen as the Pioneer League Offensive Freshman of the Year and a Phil Steele Magazine Freshman All-American.

PC won their final four games of the season by an average of 18 points, capping off a fantastic turnaround by defeating their first nationally-ranked opponent since 2014.

A Blue Hose player was given a weekly award by the PFL in three consecutive weeks to finish out the fall, as Englehart led the program to their first undefeated record in the month of November since 2002.

SCHEDULE

The 2025 path has been laid out for the Presbyterian College football team, announced by fourth-year head coach Steve Englehart on Monday afternoon. PC is penned for 12 games for the second straight year (including eight PFL matchups), starting the campaign on August 30 at Mercer.

It was a five-star finish for the Blue Hose to conclude the 2024 season, winning their last four and publishing the school's first six-win record in a full decade. The Scotsmen earned a program-record six All-Pioneer Football League First-Team selections, four of whom will return this year.

"Our 2025 schedule is as challenging as ever", commented Englehart. "We are excited to once again play a 12-game slate that includes six home games, and getting able to compete against the last two SoCon champions in Mercer and Furman right out of the gate."

"The PFL is going to be a tough and competitive league all-around as it always seems to be. We have a ton of respect for every team in this conference and know that we will need to bring our best efforts every Saturday in order to compete for our first PFL title."

Presbyterian won their last four games of the season by an average of 18 points, going undefeated in the month of November for the first time since 2002 and led by PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year quarterback Collin Hurst.

SEASON TICKETS COMING SOON

- Season tickets for the 2025 Blue Hose football season will go on sale this Friday in conjunction with the team's spring game at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The intersquad scrimmage is labeled for a 6:00 PM start, as team "blue" faces team "white".

- The Presbyterian College athletic department is excited to announce a brand-new website focused purely on purchasing season and single-game tickets for PC sporting events. The site will go live this Friday (April 11).

OPENING DAY + SEPTEMBER

- Englehart will lead Presbyterian's 113th football team to Macon, Georgia for the '25 season-starter on August 30. Their first obstacle will be the reigning Southern Conference champion Mercer Bears, the same unit who they began last season against.

- Mercer picked up the number seven national seed in the FCS Playoffs last fall off the strength of an 11-3 record, defeating CAA champion Rhode Island in the second round before being eliminated in the Quarterfinals by eventual national champs North Dakota State.

- PC will play back-to-back SoCon opponents to begin Englehart's fourth season, headed for Furman on September 6. It's been 11 years since the Blue Hose last met the Paladins, knocking them off in Clinton 10-7 in their most recent clash back in 2014.

- The final two non-conference efforts will be held at Bailey Memorial, hosting old rival Erskine for the home opener on September 13. Presby grounded the Flying Fleet 31-14 last season, continuing an 11-game winning streak in the all-time series.

- Erskine is one of five schools that PC has defeated at least 30 times, starting a three-game home stretch that will last the rest of the month.

- Presbyterian battles Bluefield in the last affair before PFL play, butting heads with the Rams on September 20. PC has won the only two prior meetings with Bluefield (2014 and 2018), winning by a combined tally of 110-24.

- Morehead State will serve as PC's first Pioneer Football League roadblock on the 27th, a team that has encountered the Blue Hose every year since 2021. The last four games between Presby and MSU have all been decided by eight points or less.

OCTOBER

- Coach E's group will enter their BYE week after the first five bouts, returning to the field on October 11 near Englehart's old stomping grounds in Indiana to meet Butler.

- It will be the rubber match between two clubs who have split the first two games against each other, as PC downed the #23 Bulldogs in Clinton to finish last season's turnaround. That denoted PC's first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in 10 years, pulling out a 30-27 heartstopper.

- Presbyterian will go back and forth between home and away games at this stage of the season, entertaining Stetson back at Bailey on October 18. PC started their season-closing four-game winning streak over the Hatters last year, piling up 329 rushing yards (a new school-record against a Division I opponent) en route to a 42-14 stomping.

- October 25 sees the Blue Hose depart for Dayton, a PFL adversary who has taken an L at PC's hands in each of the last two years. Kicker Peter Lipscombe established a new program-record during a three-touchdown win over the Flyers last season, becoming the first player in school history to make four field goals in a single game.

NOVEMBER

- The Blue Hose will tangle with Valparaiso back in South Carolina on the first day of November, not seeing the Beacons since Englehart's first year at Presbyterian back in 2022.

- PC's last two road games will come in succession, traveling to Davidson on November 8 followed by a St. Thomas trip on the 15th. The 2025 edition of the Davidson feud will be the 35th all-time meeting in the "Carolina Border Clash" and Battle for the 1919 Cup.

- The penultimate game of the regular season situates Englehart's unit in Minnesota for the first time since 2021, taking on the Tommies for the third time ever.

- Presbyterian will close a season at home for the third consecutive time, matching up with Marist in the '25 curtain call. The Red Foxes were one of the casualties to PC's four-game winning streak in Poughkeepsie, a 42-23 result from New York.
