Clinton Freshman Addy Derrick Emerging as Catalyst for Red Devils’ Historic Push

“I’ve told this group from the beginning, this is a special group of girls because of their hard work, talent and dedication to the team and the sport.”

Clinton’s girls soccer program is on the verge of something it has never achieved before—and the momentum building around the Red Devils is impossible to ignore.

At the center of that surge is freshman Addy Derrick, whose production and poise have quickly made her one of the most impactful players in the country.

Through just 16 matches, Derrick has recorded 37 goals and 12 assists averaging 2.3 goals per game. According to MaxPreps, she currently ranks 23rd nationally, while sitting No. 1 in South Carolina, No. 1 in Class AA, No. 1 in the region, and No. 1 across the South Carolina High School League—a remarkable résumé for a freshman.

“Addy brings a level of energy and composure that you don’t typically see this early,” said Head Coach Brandon Hernandez, now in his third season at the helm. “She’s fearless, she’s coachable, and she elevates everyone around her.”

While Derrick’s emergence has drawn attention, Hernandez is quick to point to the foundation behind it.

“I’ve told this group from the beginning, this is a special group of girls because of their hard work, talent and dedication to the team and the sport,” he said. “We have a great opportunity to be Clinton’s first soccer program to win a regional championship and that speaks volumes to the team’s hard work. This group of girls fight for each other, and it’s amazing to watch from the sidelines.”

That collective mindset has become the defining trait of this year’s squad. While Derrick’s numbers lead the way, Clinton’s identity is built on balance, accountability, and trust—qualities that have not gone unnoticed by opponents and coaches across the region.

Derrick’s rise is a direct reflection of that environment. Surrounded by teammates who push each other daily, the freshman has stepped confidently into a major role while continuing to develop within a system designed for long-term success.

Now, with the postseason approaching, the opportunity in front of Clinton is both clear and historic. A regional championship—something the program has never secured—is within reach.

For Hernandez, the focus remains exactly where it started.

Not on one player—but on a team that believes in each other, fights for each other, and is beginning to realize just how special it can be.

And if the Red Devils continue on their current trajectory, this season may not just be remembered for its breakout star—but for the moment an entire program took its next step forward.
