Welcome to Mimi’s Place

A place built on good food, good conversation, and family values

Posted

NEWBERRY — Newberry welcomed a familiar location with a fresh new look this week as Mimi’s Place officially opened its doors with a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration. Owners Deezie and Rick Strubeck couldn’t be happier to see their dream come to life—surrounded by family, friends, and community members who came out to show their support.

The restaurant, located at 2067 Wilson Road in Newberry, formerly known as Ronnie’s Buffet and Grill, has been completely transformed into Mimi’s Place — a warm, family-friendly spot where good food and community come together. The event, hosted in partnership with the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce, marked a proud milestone for the Strubecks, who have poured their hearts into creating a place that feels like home.

“We just wanted something that brings people together,” said Deezie, smiling as guests gathered outside the front doors. “To see so many familiar faces here celebrating with us — it means the world.”

While Deezie and Rick admit they still have a long way to go, they couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come. “We’re still a ways away from where I want it to be,” said Rick. “But it’s all about customer service. We’re trying our best every day, and we just hope everyone enjoys it.”

Rick added that the support so far has been beyond anything they imagined. “It’s exploded way more than what I expected,” he said. “The response from the community has been incredible.”

Deezie shared that she’s excited about what’s ahead and feels confident that things will continue to grow. “It’s been going good so far,” she said. “We have great food and great conversation — that’s what Mimi’s Place is all about.”

Guests enjoyed refreshments, photos, and plenty of laughter as the couple officially cut the ribbon, signaling a new beginning for the longtime Newberry location.

With its welcoming atmosphere, heartfelt service, and focus on community, Mimi’s Place is already becoming a favorite gathering spot — not just for locals in Newberry, but for neighbors across Laurens, Saluda, and Lexington counties — offering good food, hospitality, and genuine Southern charm.
