Partnerships can ensure the public is kept in the light, not in the dark

Posted

An informed community is an involved community. That’s why we seek every week to make the Greater Clinton community the best informed community it can be - we are getting a major boost in that effort through a partnership I discusses two weeks ago.

The Laurens County Water & Sewer Commission has agreed to be our partner in presenting - on a weekly basis, that’s 52 times a year - the What’s Happening calendar now re-packaged as The Flow, an appropriate title seeing that LCWSC services nearly 18,000 water customers throughout Laurens County, every day, with clean, dependable water.

The water FLOWS from the commission due to the hard-work, dedication and passion for excellence exhibited by the staff and leadership. Its efforts are one of the greatest success stories of Laurens County in the past several decades. LCWSC is looking to expand its corporate history, and we will make available our bound copies for their inspection to see if there are articles that would add to their collection of information about the commission’s founding (our effort is hampered somewhat because someone, probably me, allowed some of our early 1970s books to leave the office and these have not been recovered).

In any event, we received “a bite” from my previous column seeking a sponsor for the community calendar and our staff went to work crafting a partnership document. When you look on Page 4, you will see the result of their effort, and these promotions for LCWSC, as the calendar sponsor, will evolve over time. I compile the community calendar information - much comes from people submitting to us, at: news@clintonchronicle.net, and other information comes from my looking at Facebook. My system for keeping up with “where to go when” is to find a flyer of interest, print 2 copies (one for me and one for the front door of our office) and then I stack these by date. These also include public meeting agendas - at some point in the near future I will secure a desk-size calendar, fill in the dates based on events, and keep this as a back-up. Once an event or a meeting is done, it comes off the top of my stack, and becomes “scratch paper”. I use this for note-taking, in addition to the Reporters Notebooks that I use. Recently, our graphic designer, Victoria Steele, gifted me a Stenographer’s Notebook and I broke that in by compiling the 2025 Year in Review from articles that we published on-line.

All this is to say, Subscribers make all this possible. People reading the commuity calendar make it valuable, and LCWSC corporate message goes along with those “eyeballs” each week. Plus, LCWSC is VERY active in promoting community events, so they want to see these events succeed. There’s nothing worse than hearing a Laurens Countian say, “I would have gone to that, if I had just known about it.” Well, here’s your chance - for mere pennies per day - to “know about it.” How you can be part of an informed community is on Page 8 in today’s issue.
