The Laurens County Republican Party is reminding the community that time is running out to secure tickets for the upcoming Freedom BBQ featuring South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. Tickets must be purchased by Thursday, August 21.
This annual gathering promises a night of good food, fellowship, and an opportunity to hear directly from one of South Carolina’s top leaders. The event will highlight the importance of community engagement as the 2025 election season approaches.
“This will be the first in a series of events featuring candidates for governor,” said Valerie Jones, Chair of the Laurens County Republican Party. “Our goal is to give Laurens County residents the chance to meet these candidates face-to-face, ask questions, and hear directly from them about their vision for South Carolina.”

Sheri Biggs’ “Salute to Liberty” Sets Record as Largest First-Year Signature Event in South Carolina History
Over 1,000 Attendees Gather to Honor America’s Heroes
ANDERSON, SC – South Carolina Congresswoman Sheri Biggs’ inaugural Salute to Liberty shattered records and expectations Monday night, drawing nearly 1,200 attendees – the largest gathering ever for a signature event of a first-year elected official in South Carolina.
Hosted at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center, the patriotic evening paid tribute to the men and women who serve and protect America, including veterans, active-duty military, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and dedicated conservative patriots across the Third Congressional District, which includes Laurens County.
Underscoring that the night’s focus was not on politics but on patriotism, the event provided dinner, drink, and dessert to over 400 veterans for only $1.
“This event is not about me. It certainly is not about an election,” said Congresswoman Biggs. “Salute to Liberty is about celebrating America – American heroes, our conservative values, and the communities that keep our nation strong.”
While many political events focus on candidates and campaigns, Salute to Liberty stood apart by putting the spotlight solely on service and sacrifice. While Arkansas Governor and former White House Press Secretary for President Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was the keynote speaker – there were no campaign speeches or candidate pitches.
The program featured stirring tributes, musical performances by "The Sisters," and moments of reflection honoring the courage, commitment, and faith of the men and women who have worn the uniform or served their communities in times of need.
Congresswoman Biggs said that, with its historic attendance and unique mission, Salute to Liberty has set a new standard for what an elected official’s signature event can be.
“Salute to Liberty will be an annual event and continue to focus on what makes America great,” said Biggs.
