UPDATE: Courthouse Renovation Nears Completion; Exterior Progress Shines as Interior Work Continues

"Safety must come first."

Laurens County - The long-anticipated renovation of the Laurens County Courthouse is entering its final stages, with the exterior nearing completion and interior improvements well underway. While progress is being made daily, County Council reminds residents that the courthouse remains an active construction site and is not yet open to the public.

Although Council had hoped to have the building and grounds accessible to the public during the holidays, several critical safety features including tripping hazards and other construction-related risks make it unsafe to remove the existing perimeter fencing at this time.

“We know the community is eager to see the finished courthouse, and we’re just as excited to unveil it,” said Jeff Carroll, Chairman of County Council. “But safety must come first. We’re making sure every detail, from the landscaping to the handrails, is completed to the highest standards to ensure a safe, accessible site.”

The exterior façade is nearly finished, offering a glimpse of the courthouse’s refreshed look. Inside, the Council chambers and other key areas are beginning to take shape. Concrete work for the steps and sidewalks will be completed in the coming weeks, followed by landscaping efforts to beautify the grounds.

A formal ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony is being planned for late winter or early spring 2026 when the courthouse will officially reopen to the public. Details of the celebration will be shared closer to the date.

County Council appreciates the community’s patience and enthusiasm throughout the renovation process. Updates will continue to be provided as the project moves toward completion.
