Clinton gets its audit - Thursday: strategic plan

City Council will consider a lease with Laurens County

Posted

The City of Clinton TONIGHT will receive an important financial document.

The City's annual audit will be presented by a representative of Love Bailey Associates (Laurens) at the city council's regular monthly meeting. Open to the public and viewable on the city's YouTube channel, the meeting will be at 6 pm in the PS Baily City Council Chambers of the MS Bailey Municipal Center at 211 North Broad St., Clinton.

The council also will consider a lease with Laurens County for a new location, within the MS Bailey Municipal Center, for the Department of Social Services. The County is legally required to provide DSS with a home-base but it does not want the agency to stay in a building it once shared with the Department of Health & Environmental Control in the Perofessional Park, behind the Laurens County Hospital. DHEC, which has been restructed by the state, now is located in the former Laurens County Administrative Building in Laurens.

The MS Bailey Municipal Center has space now because School District 56 has moved out, and because it temporarily housed the Police Department while its North Broad Street location was being renovated - those renovations have been completed and the Police and Fire Departments have moved back in.

Other business before the council will include: hearing from citizens about agenda items in 2-minutes-allowed presentations; approval of the Dec. 1 minutes; proclamations: January as Birth Defects Prevention Month and January as Blood Donor Month; recognition of the 2025 Christmas Decoration Award Winners; final reading of an RS-2 (high density single family residential) zoning district; first reading of suspension of the blue laws (a move the council must make every 6 months so businesses can open on Sundays, if they choose to do so); and appointments to the Design Review Board from Wards 1, 2, 4 & 6.

Reports and Recommendations from the city manager, finance director, council members and the mayor will round out the agenda.
