Laurens County Council will consider greenlighting 2 investments of $32 Million total, and the Clinton Planning Commission will consider development reviews for 4 subdivisions - Magnolia Acres, Belle Acres, Shell Creek & Reserve at Clinton Commons - during separate meetings tonight (July 14).
At the County Council meeting, members also will consider final action on imposing a moratorium on open-space subdivisions in the county (at least 2 are affected) until more study can be done of this higher-density residential development designation. Later, in closed session, council will hear a report about "potential claims regarding the imposition of a moratorum on Open Space Development" and other items to include: proposed settlement concerning a worker's compensation claim filed by an employee of Laurens County EMS, joining a class action litigation concerning ultra-processed foods, and pending litigation: Lowe v. Laurens County, et. al (filed by the mother of a boy mauled by dogs in Clinton, Valentine's Day, 2024).
The investments expected to receive 3rd and final reading, after public hearings, are: $9.5 Million by NORELE at a location to be provided, and $23 Million by BRAWO USA Inc. in the Hunter Industrial Park, Laurens. Fee in lieu of taxes extensions also are on the agenda for BRAWO and Yangfeng.

The Commission will consider annextion and zoning assignment of Jacobs Highway and Waverly Dr. by Self Regional Healthcare, and a R-H Amendment applied for by Chris Wilkes. Then, commission members will consider the 4 subdivisions including sketch plans, a preliminary plan and a bonded final plat. Discussion items will include creation of a RS-2 zoning district, with final action expected Sept. 4.
The Clinton Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Clinton City Council which has final approval of all its action related to zoning and development.
