Hot & Cold
Music can be happy and sad, frightening and courageous, hopeless and hopeful, calming and energetic… But could music go beyond feelings and reach our senses? Yes! Music can appeal to thoughts, feelings, and senses! If this idea sounds foreign to you, think about all the music that causes pain and pleasure. This sublime art can contain the whole of human experience in a transcendent way. We can experience everything life contains and go beyond its material reality.
In Hot & Cold we will take you on a journey that will expand your musical experience to encompass senses, specifically touch. The opening Suite, performed by the PC Chamber Winds, presents 3 movements: tepid, cold, and hot. Dramatic Prelude warms up quickly, then lowers the temperature to such a degree that a breeze can be felt before the initial heat returns. Yorkshire Ballad is a gentle lukewarm song delaying its gratification, which is that perfect warmth! Jet Stream conveys a similar temperature range to Dramatic Prelude but with an aggressive touch. Little Acorn is boiling water over fluctuating heat! It never gets cold and it reaches surprising scorching moments! Finally, Dança Brasileira (Brazilian Dance) goes from a nostalgic cold to a familiar cozy heat that spreads without burning!
