The Clinton High boys’ tennis team is the state’s A-AA-AAA State Championship runner-up after competition Saturday in Columbia.
The Red Devils -- the Upper State Champions - lost 6-0 to the Oceanside Collegiate School Landsharks in play that started at the Cayce Tennis Center, then was moved because of rain to the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center, near William-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Rain which caused slick courts and potential hazards for players in Cayce also sent other finals indoors and caused postponement of at least one championship event to Thursday.
It was Oceanside’s 5th consecutive state title in tennis. The team from the Mt. Pleasant school lost just 4 individual matches all season, on their way to a 16-0 record; and their co-captain, Alex Lozano, is committed to The Citadel.
