PC Softball Splits Pair to End Weekend (Feb. 11-13)

The Presbyterian College softball team wrapped up the Blue Hose Invitational Sunday splitting their two games, falling to Northern Kentucky in the opener and defeating South Carolina State in the evening.

Game 1 – Northern Kentucky

Jenna Greene started in the circle for the Blue Hose working her way out of trouble in the 1st inning and breezed past the Norse in the 2nd. PC opened the scoring in the 2nd with an infield single from Layna Johnson. Morgan Hess was already on second after a double and she advanced to third after Jaiden Tweed reached on a dropped third strike. Jersey Silver then ripped a ball to left field to score Tweed and Johnson as PC went up 3-0. The Norse would get on the board in the 3rd as a couple walks and a base hit provided the tally. The score would hold until the top of the 7th where Northern Kentucky would place a six spot to grab a 7-3 lead. The late rally was too much for the Blue Hose as they couldn’t create a rally of their own.

Game 2 – South Carolina State

Morgan Hess got the start in game two as she went 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st. PC started right out of the gates as Jillian Hewes drove in a run once leadoff batter Jersey Silver reached third. Kaitlyn Tucker then made her way to third and scored on a wild pitch to give the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs struck with a solo homerun in the 2nd, but Presbyterian got the run right back as Rebecca Clark smashed one over the center field fence. PC added a run in the bottom of the 4th with Lath Freeman driving in Bailey Watkins with a single to left. Presbyterian wasn’t done in the game quite yet as in the bottom of the 5th they plated two more with Hess scoring on a deep pop out, and Clark crossing the plate from a Silver liner up the middle. Hess held South Carolina State in the top of the 6th and the game was called to darkness after that.
