Blue Hose can't match the Gamecocks' firepower

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (21-15) fell to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks (33-0) in the round of 64 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament after a hard fought four quarters.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter – South Carolina made the first basket of the night, before Paige Kindseth quickly tied it up with a layup. The Gamecocks scored the next seven points, before Kindseth struck again with two more points for PC. South Carolina picked up four points before Núria Cunill made a jumper in the paint to make the score 13-6 with South Carolina in front. The Gamecocks scored two more points before Tilda Sjökvist took her first basket of the day. The Gamecocks scored 10 of the last 12 points in the first quarter to send us to a break with a score of 27-10.

Second Quarter – Presbyterian took the first bucket of the second quarter behind a mid-range jumper from Cunill. South Carolina scored the next six points before Dennaye Hinds made a layup. We saw five points from the opponents before Bryanna Brady made a layup, coming from a skillful assist from Christina Kline. Kindseth hit a solid fade away jumper in the paint, before she picked up another two points to make the score 38-20. Brady took a layup before South Carolina was able to go on a 10-point run. Before the end of the first half, Sjökvist hit a three-point buzzer beater to send us to the halftime break with South Carolina ahead 48-25.
 
Third Quarter – The Gamecocks scored the first seven points of the second half, before Brady ended their run with a foul shot. With some back and forth, Mara Neira hit a three-pointer to make the score 61-30. After a media break, Sjökvist took two points off a mid-range jumper before South Carolina answered with two of their own. Neira then drained a three-pointer before Sjökvist took two points. South Carolina scored the next eight points before the end of the third quarter to lead 74-37.

Fourth Quarter – South Carolina took 17 more points before the end of the game to come out on top with a score of 91-39.
