Clinton experienced another here-we-grow-again moment Sept. 29 with the official opening of Self Medical Center Clinton.
The new office on the Jacobs Highway joins Self Regional Healthcare’s commitment to Laurens County with its office and urgent care on Hwy 76, between Clinton and Laurens, and its Lake Greenwood location. Doctors Neal Goodbar and Brian Weirick, Sara Moore, FNP, and Wendy Nix, FNP, lead the staff at its new facility in providing Clinton with family medicine and internist care.
Goodbar especially thanked the practice’s patients for making the office physicians and staff always feel welcomed and accepted.
“I have been here for 13 years now, and I have felt that the entire time,” he said, during an afternoon office dedication and open-house time.
He told the staff he was going to, soon, deliver in his promise of a banana-cream pie.
Dr. Matthew Logan, President and CEO of Self Regional Healthcare, said the office-opening is the fulfillment of a commitment made to Dr. Goodbar when they discussed his coming on-board with Self Regional.
“A few years ago when (Neal) and I were talking a little bit about him joining Self Regional, he said, ‘You know, Matt, I really want a beautiful space to take care of my patients.’ I told him at the time, ‘Just give me a little time to do it.’ This is a beautiful space, where the patients here, who trust us to give them care, will get great care.”
The new location “really represents a lot more than a building; it’s the people that we are going to be able to serve in this area and, certainly, in Clinton and surrounding areas. We are excited about this, super-excited.”
He added, “Self Regional is committed to serving this area of South Carolina. Certainly, we consider this an area that needs a lot of excellent care, and we are so fortunate to have people who want to give that excellent care here; a special thanks to Dr Neal Goodbar.”
Goodbar called it “a weird dream come true.”
“This is not just about a building,” he said. “It’s about the promise that Self Regional has been making for 75 years about trying to care for and invest in the health of all the communities that Self Regional serves; and we’re lucky to see part of that promise be fulfilled with this great office. To our patients, thank you for trusting us with your health; thank you for always making us feel accepted and trusted and appreciated.”
Expressing thanks to his staff and family, Goodbar said, “To the staff, thank you for the strong work ethic for your patients. You trusted me to get us to this point, and I appreciate that. Thanks for your big hearts - it sounds cheesy - but you all really do put the ‘family’ in family medicine. Thanks to my family for all the support. You remind me that family matters, and that’s important.”
“Finally, everyone, welcome to our new home!”
The new Self Medical Center Clinton has a large number of examination rooms, built around a center nursing and staff desk. The spacious front lobby connects to the admission area, and employees’ work spaces and offices align one side area of the building.
This medical office is at 119 Jacobs Hwy. in Clinton.
