Possible investments of $63.88 Million & $93 Million in Laurens County

Tonight, Laurens County Council will take 1st action on Project Floyd & Project IPE

Posted

Project Floyd which could invest $63.88M in Laurens County and Project IPE which could invest $93M and create 123 jobs are on tonight's agenda for first action of the Laurens County Council.

Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Hillcrest Complex East, 105 Bolt Dr., Laurens. The meeting - except for closed, executive sessions - is open to the public; council has 3 items to discuss in private tonight (Nov. 10), then it will have a joint session with the Planning Commission to discuss 3 items - open space residential development, non-conforming lots, and minimum lot sizes for conventional residential subdivisions serviced by public water and sewer.

Three documents each pertain to the 2 business/industry location-possibilties, but none identify the companies nor the locations within Laurens County. These are Inducement Agreements, fee in lieu of taxes agreements, and multi-county industrial park (Laurens partners with Greenville County) designations for these investments. Normally, the names of companies making investments in exchange for fees instead of paying taxes are given on 3rd and final reading, and a public hearing, of the ordinances.

Inducements are offered by resolution (1 reading) and FILOTs and amendments to industrial parks are done by ordinance (3 readings).

Council also will proclaim November as Disability Employment Awareness Month, and will approve Sherri Gordon for appointment to the Upper Savannah Worksforce Board.

The 3 closed session discussions (permissible under narrow conditions specified in the SC Freedom of Information Act) are:

-- legal advice on findings and recommendations of the Laurens County Grievance Committee about a former employee of the Fire Department;

-- employment and compensation for a Human Resources Director; and

-- negotiations to buy properities at 1 & 3 Gallon Street.

The Laurens County Council meets the 2nd Monday of each month (except holidays) in the Veterans/Voting Office -- Hillcrest Complex East - in Laurens. Its meetings are live-streamed and archived on the county website.
