Hit-and-Run Fatality
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has issued this statement: “Laurens County Coroner’s Office was called about a death from a hit and run at 700 Fleming St in Laurens after midnight on 6-8-2025.
“Coroner Patti Canupp has identified a 50-year-old male as James Brendan Oshields from Laurens. Mr. Oshields was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial after he arrived.
“This is a sad case for the family to see and learn about on Facebook Live. We are still waiting on the autopsy results for the cause of death.
“Please keep the family in your prayers.
“The Laurens County Coroner’s Office and the Laurens City Police Department are still investigating this case.”
The Laurens Police issued this statement:
“Update: The victim’s family has been notified and the victim’s name will be released by the Laurens County Coroner Office.
“LAURENS — The Laurens Police Department is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred late Saturday night, June 7, 2025, on Fleming Street near the areas of Garlington Street, Deer Street, and Conway Avenue.
“Police were notified of the incident at approximately 11:13 PM. Officers responded to the scene following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by two vehicles. The victim was transported to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. ...
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further information about the vehicles involved or the circumstances of the collision will be released at this time.
“Investigators are also reviewing a Facebook Live video recorded shortly after the incident.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact the Laurens Police Department tip line at (864) 984‑3532 or submit tips anonymously through Laurens County Crime Stoppers at (864) 682‑7463.”
