In front of the Historic Courthouse, under a 7 p.m. Thursday sky, Laurens Mayor Nathan Senn accepts the game ball for Friday's inter-country football rivalry game between the Red Devils and the Raiders, from the combined schools' cross-country teams.
The Clinton team started the ball run at Wilder Stadium. The Raiders team took the ball at Clemson Eye. The teams re-united just outside the Laurens Square and ran, combined, to the plaza area in front of City Hall to hand the ball off to Mayor Nathan Senn.
Senn posted:
Every two years, I am honored to take part in a really special event, the Laurens District 55 High School and Laurens County School District 56 cross country teams running the game ball from Clinton to Laurens when our City plays host to this great rivalry football game. Tonight (Aug. 28), I received the game ball for the THIRD time as Mayor of The City of Laurens, SC, and this time with the “First Dog” of Laurens, Maggie! On the field, we may be rivals, but off the field, we love our neighbors in Clinton! This ball represents two great towns, two great schools, and one great rivalry in one big county!
Thanks to the Laurens Police Department for keeping all the runners safe on their way to the City!
This was the 9th time that the teams have made the Game Ball Run.
