Bishawn Bell arrested in I-26 incident

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has issued this statement: “Per Patti Canupp, On April 14, 2026, Chief Deputy Coroner Ashley Rushton was notified of a death that occurred at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

“On April 11, 2026 around 9:30 pm, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on I26 E at Mile Marker 53 in Clinton, SC. 

“The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old female, Trinitee Hunter of Spartanburg, SC. 

“Ms. Trinitee Hunter was an organ donor. On April 15, 2026, a Walk of Honor was held in recognition of her generous gift of life through organ donation.

“The incident is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.”

The SC Highway Patrol has announced the arrest of Bishawn Bell, 34, of North Charleston, in connection with the death. Held without bond, his charges are: felony leaving the scene of a collision involving death, felony leaving the scene of a collision involving great bodily injury and leaving the scene of a collision of an attended vehicle. A narrative said a 2017 Ford pickup and 2014 Kia Sedan were traveling east on I-26; a 2013 Toyota sedan and 2016 Toyota pickup were traveling west on I-26. The Kia struck the Ford pickup causing the pickup to cross the median, overturn and hit the Toyota sedan and Toyota pickup. The driver of the Ford pickup and the Toyota sedan were injured and airlifted. The driver of the Toyota sedan was deceased, while the driver of the Toyota pickup and the Kia were not injured. The driver of the Kia left the scene but was later located and arrested.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
