The Walmart Express store in Gray Court, Laurens County (9032 Hwy 14) will close Jan. 28.
Quartz on-line posted a list of all Walmarts that will close in the U.S. The retail giant is closing 269 stores, more than half in the United States. All 102 Walmart Express stores - scaled down versions of Walmart stores started in 2011 - will be closed. Quartz said the stores, nationally, were not successful.
In South Carolina, the Walmart Express in Pacolet and the Supercenter in Winnsboro also will be closed, according to the on-line list. The Gray Court store's sign says it's a Neighborhood Express; the company website closing list says the Gray Court store is a Walmart Express. The store is about a mile from the giant ZF Transmissions Gray Court plant which is slated for 2,000 employees at build-out.
