Laurens – Following months of intensive community collaboration through the Think Together initiative, Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is proud to announce the official approval of its new mission and vision statements. These foundational pillars will serve as the North Star for the District’s 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, guiding educational priorities for the next five years.
Approved by the LCSD 55 School Board on March 23, 2026, these guiding statements reflect a shared commitment to excellence and will serve as the foundation for the District’s priorities over the next five years. Rooted in the theme of “Building a 5-Star District of Excellence,” the Board also affirmed a set of ambitious, measurable goals aligned to this vision:
To ensure a strong and successful rollout, the District will host an intensive summer work session focused on preparing for the full launch of the new mission and vision at the start of the 2026 school year. During this time, each department will develop targeted strategies to support and achieve these goals.
For 2026-2031, the LCSD 55 Vision/Mission Statements are:
Building a 5-Star District of Excellence
Laurens County School District 55 encourages students to be college, career, and/or military ready through learning experiences supported by engaged staff, families, and community.
Cathy Little, LCSD 55 School Board Chair, expressed high expectations for the impact of these new guiding principles. “I hope Laurens District 55 will realize its vision of becoming a 5-Star District of Excellence by creating consistent, high-quality learning experiences for every student, including our students in the Special Education program," Little stated.
Little continued, "I also hope to see improved engagement across staff, families, and the community, which leads to a unified support system for student success."
The approval of these statements marks a significant milestone in a process grounded in the belief that the most effective strategic plan is one created with the community, not just for it. Heather Elders, LCSD 55 School Board Member for Seat 3, highlighted the personal importance of this vision for local families.
"As a fellow parent and member of our school board, I sincerely hope that our district develops into a place where our children discover their calling and flourish," said Elders.
Elders added, "I envision schools where kids are challenged, encouraged, and really enthusiastic about learning and prepared to face the world. Let’s all work together to make this mission/vision a reality for our students in District 55 because they are worthy of this type of education and deserve nothing but the best!"
Amanda Lecaroz, Director of Accountability, Federal Programs, and Professional Learning, underscored the long-term importance of the work. “This strategic plan is more than a roadmap—it is a blueprint for the future of Laurens County School District 55,” Lecaroz noted. “It reflects the voices, values, and vision of our entire community.”
Community member and Think Together Steering Committee participant Patsy Campbell shared her appreciation for the collaborative process. “It was inspiring to see how aligned our community is around what’s best for our students,” Campbell said. “I hope we continue to build on this momentum and keep our community engaged moving forward.”
Board Chair Little concluded by emphasizing the ultimate goal: “While measurable growth is important, our greatest success will be developing caring, responsible, and productive citizens who positively contribute to our community.”
With the mission and vision now established, LCSD 55 will continue its work to ensure the Strategic Plan remains grounded in the insights of those who care most about the schools. This collaborative effort reinforces the District’s dedication to innovation and excellence as it plans for the future.
