The closed session of TONIGHT'S Laurens County Council meeting will include "investigative proceedings" related to criminal misconduct allegations, the agenda says.
The council's meeting will be at 6 pm in Hillcrest Complex East, 105 Bolt Dr., Laurens. The meeting is open to the public, but public bodies are allowed by state law to discuss narowly defined items of business in executive session.
Relating the Specific Purpose of the closed session, the agenda relates, "i. Discussion of employment, appointment, and/or compensation of a Finance Director ii. Investigative proceedings regarding allegations of criminal misconduct by an unknown third-party targeting County employees."
The agenda does not indicate if council action will be taken - no action can be taken in closed session.
The executive session items come at the end of a long agenda mostly related to economic development projects: a Clinton industrial park to include Project Diamond; Project Palmetto FILOT; Project Basel FILOT; amending Connexial industrial park to include Project Oracle; inducement for Project Sunshine and project's FILOT (fee in lieu of taxes).
Project Sunshine is the newest of the projects being discussed; its paperwork says it will be an investment of $34 Million, but not less that $289M, and it will create 564 jobs, but not less than 125 jobs.
The FY 26-27 General Operating Budget will be considered By Title Only.
Special recognitions will include: Coroners and Medicolegal Death Investigators Professionals Week, Jan. 25-31; Disabilites Awareness Month; and Severe Weather and Flood Safety Wee, March 8 - 14. County Administrator's Report, report for committees, appointments, and County Council Comments also are on the agenda.
The Laurens County Council regular meetings are the second Monday of each month, and are viewable through the county website.
