The Clinton Red Devils gave up 23 unanswered points on their way to a 37 to 12 loss Friday night to number 2 in 4A, the Daniel Lions. "The first half was positive. We were one play away from scoring drives. The second half was a tale of two cities. We were not cohesive," said Clinton football head coach Corey Fountain.

Clinton's two touchdowns were by Kason Copeland in the first half and Rhett Gilliam with two seconds left in the game. Javen Cook ran the ball 23 times for 83 yards. Quarterback Tushawan Richardson had 120 yards passing before being injured. The game was 14 to 6 at halftime but wound up 37 to 12 as Daniel ran the ball 70 yards for one touchdown and threw the ball for 319 yards.

Clinton ran the ball 49 times for 138 yards and threw the ball for 144 yards completing 13 of 25 attempts, as the Red Devils, the number two team in 2A, fell to 3 and 2 on the season. Daniel ran the ball 14 times for 90 yards, but one of those runs was for 70 yards of the total. Also, the Lions completed 18 passes out of 23 attempts against the Clinton secondary. The Lions were penalized 12 times for 126 yards. Clinton committed 7 penalties for only 55 yards.

Clinton plays host to Union County next Friday, September 27, for homecoming, then starts region play.
