City of Clinton wants residents to serve on utility advisory committee

Posted

As part of the city’s efforts to address rising utility rates, the City of Clinton is forming an advisory committee to assist city staff and city council in reviewing and implementing various options for rate restructuring and design. City Council intends for the committee to include city staff, members of council, representatives from the city’s largest electric users, and at least six members from the general public.

Citizens interested in serving on the committee must be a customer of the City of Clinton’s electric utility either as a commercial customer or a residential customer, and must be at least 18 years of age.

City Manager Frank Stovall said committee members will serve an advisory role, helping city staff and council evaluate options for moving our utility forward and improving services for our customers.

Each member of the committee will be required to attend several training sessions over the next few months designed to provide a detailed review of the municipal electric industry.

“This is an opportunity for our citizens who are concerned about the cost of utilities to stand with us on the front lines as we try to address this problem and to be a part of the solution – a solution that will make this city stronger” said Stovall.

Interested citizens need to apply for the committee positions by completing and submitting an application which can be found on the city’s web site at www.cityofclintonsc.com, or picked up in person at the M. S. Bailey Municipal Center.

The applications will be reviewed on Nov. 2. Anyone interested in serving should have application materials submitted to the city by that date.
