America: 250 Years in the Making

In 1776, this great nation was born and 250 years later, we are part of its history. We are the fruits of the past and the seeds of the future. We, from PC Bands, have chosen to celebrate this important milestone with a concert of reflection and celebration. In this program, the National Anthem and the hymns of the military branches, together with beloved patriotic works such as God Bless America and America the Beautiful, as well as the folk tunes that have shaped our cultural heritage, are woven together through a reflection on the American spirit.

This concert is not a timeline from the Revolutionary War to the present day. It is not centered on the dark chapters of our history, for darkness does not define the American spirit—it represents a departure from it.

This concert is a celebration of the true American spirit—the spirit that moves men and women to sacrifice comfort and possessions for the sake of others they often do not know; the spirit that calls us to risk our lives for what is good, true, and just.

The American spirit is courageous in its initiatives, thoughtful in its planning, compassionate in its methods, just in its goals, resolute in its actions, and grateful for the fruits of its labor.

As we reflect on what this spirit truly is, may we also be inspired to live it; to carry it forward as we continue building this great nation together!
