3rd place Sports Feature --

This photo from Clinton Red Devil Football’s 13-1 2022 season earned The Chronicle’s Editor Vic MacDonald a 3rd place award in the weeklies under 3,000 circulation category of the South Carolina Press Association’s annual newspapers awards competition. Winners were announced by the association last Friday at the annual meeting in Columbia. MacDonald also earned two 1st place awards -- Editorial Writing in All Weeklies, and Photo Series or Photo Story for photographs of the Unity Walk at Presbyterian College, following a racial harassment incident on campus last year. A member of The Chronicle staff since February, 2012, MacDonald has earned 49 SC Press awards as a team member or individually with The Clinton Chronicle. The newspaper earned 4 awards in the 2021 contest and the General Excellence Award in its category for 2019.

The judge’s comments on MacDonald’s Editorials were, “The editorial were local, researched and well reasoned. There was stiff competition, and South Carolina should be proud to have such vigorous local newspapers willing to take stands on issues important to their readers.”

The judge’s comments on MacDonald’s Picture Series were, “This series gave me a sense of place and time, just what good photographs should do. Loved the back and white.”
