Posted

About 200 people came out Saturday morning for the Williams Walk fund-raiser to raise money for Williams Syndrome research at the Laurens Family YMCA. Four Williams children were among the crowd that took part in a barbecue lunch, balloon animals, face painting and bouncy houses activities for the kids, T-shirt sale and DJ music for the event. Williams Syndrome is a genetic condition that presents at birth, characterized by medical problems that can include cardiovascular disease, developmental delays and learning disabilities. With high-performing verbal abilities, highly social personalities and an affinity for music, Williams Syndrome patients are an estimated one in 10,000 people worldwide, and 20,000 to 30,000 people in the U.S., occurring equally in males and females.
