Oct. 23 - District 56 Board of Trustees, 7:30 pm, Clinton High auditorium - Superintendent's Report, financial, report cards, intercession review, 2 policies related to Gavin's Law (sexual extortion).

Oct. 24 - Laurens County Safe Home Annual Luncheon, “Bring One Wear One,” 11:30 am - 1 pm at Broad Street United Methodist Church, 310 N. Broad St., Clinton. Tickets $30, reserve a seat or sponsor a table: e-mail Leslie@me.org, you must purchase a ticket to attend, last day to register, Oct. 20.

Oct. 25 - Coffee with a Cop at The Vestibule.

The Community will join together on Wednesday, October 25 at the Vance Park, Clinton, at 12:00 noon to hold a prayer time for Israel.

Oct. 27 - United Way of Laurens County Annual Clay Shoot & Bourbon Tasting Fund-raiser, The Clinton House Plantation, 151771 Hwy 56 N, Clinton.

Oct. 27 - Halloween Trunk or Treat, 4 - 7 pm at 93 Human Services Rd., Clinton, parking lot.

Oct. 28 - Blood Drive at Give Back Ministries, 105 W. Main St., Clinton, 10 am - 1:30 pm, by the Blood Connection. A $25 charitable donation will be made per donor = donors get $25 in rewards.

OCT. 28 - BREAST CANCER AWARENESS WALK, 10 am at Clinton High School, bring a $5 donation to walk, supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors, celebrating hope. Wear Pink - all proceeds to Laurens County Cancer Association.

Oct. 28 - Celebrating Native American Traditions Continues 

Once again all eyes will be on the artists preserving the skills, art, and traditions of their ancestors at the second day of “Celebrating Native American Traditions Past and Present” on Saturday, October 28. The Magnolia Room at the Laurens County Museum will be the venue for the programs sponsored by the Laurens County Museum and the PAIA Lower Eastern Cherokee Nation of SC. A generous grant from the SC Arts Commission Office of Folklife and Traditional Arts made the series of programs possible. 

At 10 am, October 28, witness the beautiful and mesmerizing flute playing of Kim Two Moons Elwood, Cherokee flute player.   She will demonstrate other instruments, the hand drum and rattlers, as well as demonstrate how flutes are made. Two programs will begin at 1:30 pm.   A talk on Cherokee basketry by Deborah Moon Wolf Pope will be followed by a workshop where participants will make a tobacco basket. At the same time, Patsy Dancing Wolf Durham will talk about dream catchers and then lead a worship on making a dream catcher.

“Celebrating Native American Traditions Past and Present” will continue on Saturday, March 16, 2024, with more artistry and workshops. Laurens County school children will have the opportunity for field trips to the PAIA Tribal grounds in Gray Court on two Wednesdays in March.

Oct. 30 - Laurens - Laurens County First Steps will be hosting an interactive informational session on Academic Readiness & Early Childhood Development, Oct. 30, 6 p.m. at Laurens Middle School. We sincerely hope that you will join us! 

Even though the world has returned to face-to-face instruction, are you curious about how the pandemic has had an impact on children’s development, especially for those children currently in preschool and kindergarten? What would you like to know about children’s development and the use of handheld devices? This session is open to families, educators, pediatricians, early interventionists and anyone who works with young children. You will come away with fun, easy strategies to support the development of critical skills necessary for academic readiness.

OCT. 31 - The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office would like to invite the public to join us again for our annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event. Each year, we set up in our front parking lot along with some other local groups (girl scouts, American Legion Post 25, churches etc.) to provide a safe place for children to receive candy.

OCT. 31 - The City of Clinton presents Trick or Treat, 6-8 pm; costume contest begins at 7 pm, age groups: 3 & under, 4-7, 8-12, one adult costume winner will be awarded. All churches, businesses and organizations are invited to join us downtown to set up a booth, hand out candy and play games, There will be designated areas for anyone wanting to set up a vehicle for Trunk or Treat.

Oct. 31 - Candy Crypt will be Oct. 31, 6 - 8 pm at The Ridge at Laurens, 301 Exchange Dr. Halloween is just around the corner and we’re ready to embark on a sugar-filled adventure like no other. Join us on an epic journey as we enter the mysterious candy crypt. Our mad scientist is hard at work to create the ultimate candy experience, even from the candies no one likes.

Oct. 31 - NHC Healthcare Clinton Trick or Treat, 5 - 7 pm at 304 Jacobs Hwy. Residents & staff will be here ready to see everyone dressed up and eager to hand out candy. Pumpkin decorating for staff & voting for public.

Nov. 1 - Lander Writers Series to Feature Alumnus Robert Maynor

GREENWOOD — The community is invited to join the Department of English and Foreign Languages for the annual Lander Writers Series featuring author and Lander alumnus Robert Maynor. The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on the Lander campus and is free and open to the public.

About the Author:

Robert Maynor is a 2012 graduate of Lander University, where he earned a BA in English, and the author of The Big Game Is Every Night, which was selected for publication in 2022 by Hub City Press. It’s now available wherever books are sold. Short stories by Maynor have also appeared in several publications, including Blood Orange Review, BULL, The Carolina Quarterly and CRAFT. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and he is the past recipient of the Larry Brown Short Story Award and the Coker Fellowship in Fiction from the South Carolina Academy of Authors.

Nov. 9 - Laurens District Genealogical Society November Meeting, Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Laurens County Museum at 7 pm. Speaker: Gene Brooks.

Gene is a Laurens County native from the Hopewell Community of Clinton. He was a contributing writer to the “ Discovering Laurens County” Books. He is descended from some of the first settlers of Laurens County. He is a graduate of Presbyterian College, Fuller Theological Seminary and 

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Gene Brooks is presently

The Langston Baptist Church dates back to 1773 and the present church 

building back to the 1840’s. Marlynn Nelson Powell will give us the Church History and Dianne  Culbertson will tell about Dicey Langston. You will learn about the  Langston family in the American Revolution. Do you descend from one of Dicey Langston’s 22 children?

Genealogy is an exciting hobby and an excellent way to meet your cousins

Nov. 10 — Laurens — The Friends of the Laurens County Library System is holding their annual fundraising project. This year, two winners will choose between pumpkin or pecan pie as well as four varieties of cake: carrot (with or without nuts), sweet potato, red velvet, or chocolate. Til Culbertson, formerly of Yo Cup and Sweet on Occasion, is the professional baker creating these delicious prizes. Tickets are one dollar each, or six for five dollars. Buy your tickets now through November 8. The names will be selected on the 10th of November, with desserts ready for pick-up at either the Clinton or Laurens libraries on the 21st and 22nd.  Stop by your library branch to get your fund-raising tickets.

Nov. 11 - Clinton Canopy invites you to plant FREE daffodils this fall in memory of a loved one.  November 11 will be our first annual Daffodils for Remembrance.  Between 9 and 11 am, join us at 100 Legion Dr. to receive and plant your bulbs (with assistance if needed).  Your beloved friend, colleague, or family member will have their names posted on Clinton Canopy website’s (clintoncanopy.org) dedication page.  

Next spring, the city will be greeted with beautiful yellow daffodils, and your bulbs will bloom annually as a remembrance of these loved ones.  Each year, in different areas of town, the community will be provided the opportunity to dedicate more daffodils in remembrance of more loved ones. Feb. 17 - CALLING ALL LOCAL BANDS!

On February 17, 2023, the City of Laurens will introduce an all-new event entitled “Home Grown.” This event will be a showcase of curated Upstate musicians selected by video submission.

Being held at the historic Capitol Theatre, musicians will entertain those in attendance with original songs and crowd favorites. The winning band will be selected by a combination of social media engagement, the crowd’s favorite, and a judges’ panel.

All performances will be done acoustically.
