Keepin’ It Real Campers ....

The School Resource Officers of the Clinton Police Department and School District 56 wrap up a weeklong camp with a program and fun day at Clinton High School, July 12. The program was the Graduation Ceremony of the Keepin’ It Real Clinton Police Department Summer Camp. Guest speaker was Marcus Cheeks, local businessman and restaurantuer, who challenged the campers to stomp on, fold up, and “bully and make fun of” a $100 bill; afterward, he asked if they could still spend it - he messaged that no matter what you go through, you still have value. Police Chief Sonny Ledda and the SROs did the presentation of certificates, with a brief description offered of each graduate. The campers provided the Pledge of Allegiance, opening prayer, messages, and the closing prayer; in front of the stage are posters and messages about lessons-learned from the camp participants. A bicycle and bicycle helmet were presentated through a randon selection. Speakers for the week included Ledda, Investigators Shane Prather and Ryan Mercer, Clinton Fire Department, Region One Flight Crew, Ashley Kowalski, Operation Get Smart program, Rotary International, Clinton Middle School Principal Jeff Parks, and Erica Coats. The program thanked its 17 community sponsors. -- Photos by Vic MacDonald
