Posted

In preparation for the Monday, Aug. 20 return to classrooms by students, District 56 conducted its annual Convocation on Friday in the Clinton High School auditorium. The 2018-19 Teacher of the Year. Carissa Messer, spoke and introduced an ensemble performing to "Fight Song." The performing group received a standing ovation. Superintendent Dr. David O'Shields said he had a speech prepared, but felt inadequate trying to "follow" Mrs. Messer's fire-themed talk and the children performing. District 56 named Caroline Hunt as the District 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year, Maxine McGee as the Support Staffperson of the Year, and Katie Holley as Rookie of the Year. Faculty members who chose to do so participated in a prayer in The Commons at CHS as the program ended, and they returned to their classrooms and training in prepartion for the 2018-19 academic year in School District 56. - Photos by Vic MacDonald
