Past, present and future Clinton High School athletes, and their fans, attended the combined winter-spring athletics recognition event Tuesday (May 22) in the CHS gym, with a reception in the cafeteria. Seniors Sam Tiller and Ashlyn Abercrombie went home with the most pretigious prizes - Male & Female Athlete of the Year, recognizing their successes as 3-sport athletes in the 2017-18 academic year. CHS Athletics recognized a State Champion Team - girls track 4x100 relay - and a State Champion Runner-up Team - boys tennis, their second consecutive trip to the finals winning the upper state championship. Several boys basketball players were unable to attend because of a work commitment, but they were recognized along with girls basketball, cheerleaders, trainers, boys and girls track, boys and girls soccer, boys tennis, baseball, softball and golf student-athletes. Boys basketball standout JD Payne is the summer camp scholarship recipient from the Coach Bobby Brock Legacy Group. The service award of the CHS Athletic Booster Club was presented to Brian Gault, and CHS Region Coaches of the Year are Paige Drisgula (girls track), John Gardner (girls basketball) and Clovis Simmons (boys tennis). - Photos by Vic MacDonald
