Clinton City Council will have a private, executive session discussion about what to do to revitalize Musgrove Street at its Monday evening regular meeting.
Initial portions of the meeting are open to the public - closed to the public after council votes to enter into executive session.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of the municipal building 211 N. Broad Street, Clinton. The first of two closed session discussions will be about the SC Department of Social Services moving into vacant space in the Municipal Building (vacated by School District 56 when it moved into a building near Eastside Elementary School). The second part of the closed session is about Musgrove Street, where four buildings burned down on August 27. Three affected businesses - Hoyt Hanvey Jewelers, Family Eye Care and House of Pizza - have announced re-openings or re-opening plans after renovations.
The burned out area has not been substantially cleaned.
In addition, council will swear in Clinton's new Police Chief, Michael Addision; will consider tapping the Rate Stabilization Fund up to $1 Million to pay for Hurricane Helene damage and repairs to the electrical infrastructure; give 1st reading to an annexation ordinance for property o Jacobs Highway; and give 2nd and final reading to economic development incentives for businesses locating in the Clinton Historical District.
The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act allows public bodies to have executive session discussions (without votes and no polling of members) on matters related to some contracts, economic development/industries, and legal advice. The two items to be discussed by the Clinton City Council, as announced in the agenda, touch all three - contract economic development matter related to Musgrove Street and to receive legal advice; and contract related to Laurens County DSS and to receive legal advice.
The Clinton City Council's regular monthly meeting dates are the 1st Monday of each month. Council live-streams its meetings on the City Facebook page.
