Rep. Jeff Duncan Congratulates Congressman Mike Johnson, the New Speaker of the House

Washington, D.C. — As the House of Representatives elected Congressman Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House, Congressman Jeff Duncan released the following statement:

“I am proud to have cast my ballot for the 56th Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson,” said Congressman Jeff Duncan. “Congressman Mike Johnson is the most conservative Speaker that we have seen in our lifetime.

“America is blessed to have a Constitutional scholar like Mike Johnson at the helm of the House of Representatives. As some states attempted to violate their own state Constitutions to unlawfully challenge election procedures in 2020, Mike personally led an amicus brief to the Supreme Court – which I joined – challenging these actions. His Constitutional analysis was not only praised by President Trump but also has been affirmed in countless Courts.

“Mike and I have stood in the trenches of the House to fight for commonsense, America-first policies that restore this country to what the Founders intended. Together, we have supported medical freedom from forced COVID vaccines, demanded Congress balance the Federal budget, defunded any type of event that includes ‘sexually-oriented material’ for children, bolstered religious liberty, cut taxpayer dollars for Planned Parenthood, and championed Second Amendment Rights.

“Mr. Speaker, let’s get the House back to work for the American people!”

Background: Congressman Johnson chaired the Republican Study Committee (RSC) - the conservative conscience on Capitol Hill - during the 116th Congress. As Chair, he kept the House rooted in limited government, preserved traditional values, strengthened national defense, and bolstered America’s economy.

Johnson is a constitutional law attorney who personally led an amicus brief to the Supreme Court to stop states from changing the process for choosing their presidential electors in violation of their State Constitutions as they sought to block the will of the people in electing Donald J. Trump as President. Johnson’s argument not only was legally sound and victorious but the ruling has been upheld repeatedly by several Courts. There is little doubt that he is a constitutional scholar.

Johnson personally led countless briefs before the Supreme Court to protect Second Amendment gun rights, protect First Amendment religious liberty, and protect the personal freedoms of every American. Congressman Duncan proudly stood with Rep. Johnson on each of these issues and is grateful for Johnson’s knowledge and expertise in fighting for our Constitutional rights.

During his time leading the RSC, Johnson delivered the Securing America's Future Economy budget that would have balanced the Federal budget within 10 years and included a full repeal of Obamacare. This commonsense budget was defeated by tax-and-spend Democrats who refuse responsible fiscal policies that would fund Social Security and ensure Medicare is salvaged, as well as unleash the American economy.

Johnson has already released his plan to get the House back to work to pass appropriations bills to get America’s spending under control with only 23 days remaining before the Government shuts down.
