“Let me be brave.” Special Olympians of Area 5 along with Presbyterian College and other volunteers joined forces March 24 for the Area 5 Special Olympics at PC’s Bailey Memorial Stadium. Running and softball throw were just two of several events for the special athletes of Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick and Newberry counties. Prior to a parade of athletes, coaches and helpers around the stadium track, the Special Olympians heard a recitation of their sport’s creed, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” The local event is part of a worldwide movement - the 2017 World Winter Games were held March 14-25 in Schladming, Austria, and the 2018 USA Games will be held in Seattle. - Photos by Vic MacDonald
