Devils ground the Falcons, 7-6

Posted

Clinton High School varsity baseball continues its march toward the AAA Upper State Championship Friday with a 7-6 home win over the AC Flora Falcons. Both teams get 8 hits in the contest, and the Red Devils score the go-ahead run on a hit and error - the only AC Flora miscue of the game - in the bottom of the 6th. Tristan Smaltz gets the win, with relief by Aaron Copeland (save). The victory clinches the Red Devils first District Championship since 1994, and sets up TONIGHT'S (May 9) home game against Belton-Honea Path. Seneca and Wren also are playing for berths in the Upper State Championship Game on Monday, May 16. See more in the May 11th issue of The Clinton Chronicle.
