Danny Smith wins Clinton council seat

Voter turnout for March elections is 8%

Clinton City Council will have at least one new member, after municipal elections on Tuesday. Political newcomer and Realtor Danny Smith defeated Clinton Mayor Pro-tem Ronnie Roth, 58-42, in municipal voting.

Another challenger, Natalie Cogsdill will be in a runoff with incumbent Robbie Neal - Cogsdill got 38 votes, Neal got 21 votes, and a third candidate, Dianne Vaughn, received 16 votes. Cogsdill and Neal will match up in a March 18 runoff. Incumbent Danny Cook defeated Sonya Adams, 109-17 in the District 1 race.

In Laurens, Calvin Whitmire defeated incumbent Sara Latimore, 58-15.  Alicia Sullivan will return to the council despite not seeking re-election - she got 41 write-in votes to Melinda Gray's 23 write-in votes. 

In Gray Court, only incumbent Millie Dawkins filed for town council, despite there being two open seats.  Dawkins was re-elected with 44 votes and Brittany Hames got 24 votes as a write-in candidate.

Marian Miller was unopposed in Laurens County District 1. Parker Moore was unopposed for Laurens CPW, District 2, Seat 4.

Barbara Smith returns as Waterloo mayor, running unopposed. Council members Murry Jones and Curtis Todd also return to office as unopposed candidates.

Danny Stroud remains as Cross Hill mayor, running unopposed. The four town council seats that were up for election will be filled by Brandon Simpson (i), Beverly Jones (i), Rita Faye Neal,  and Connie Jester (i).

These elections are non-partisan (no political parties).
