Police respond to unresponsive person, smoke suspect out of a house

Clinton Police Chief, Sonny Ledda announced this afternoon the arrest of a male suspect at a residence on East Carolina Avenue, Clinton, SC.

On Thursday, April 4, 2024 approximately 12:15pm Clinton Police Department was dispatched to a residence on East Carolina Avenue, Clinton, SC for an unresponsive person. As units entered them residence a deceased male victim was located. As units continued to investigate, an armed subject was discovered in the residence and then he barricaded himself inside.

Clinton Police Department, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Laurens County EMS, the Laurens County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are on scene. SLED is assisting the Clinton Police Department with the death investigation.

Chief Ledda stated, “This appears to be a isolated incident, but the investigation is ongoing.” He continued to state, “We ask that citizens stay clear of the area East Carolina Avenue to Adair Street as the investigation continues.”

Authorities have identified the suspect as Elliot Devon Brown, 24, who is charged with breach of the peace of a high and aggravated nature. His bond hearing will be at 8 am today in Clinton Municipal Court in the MS Bailey Municipal Center.

The suspect's bond is $20,000, and he is to have no contact of any kind with the victim's family.
