Aiming for Upper State

Posted

The Clinton High varsity boys basketball team took an important step toward the Class AAA Upper State Championship Game - a place they haven't been since 2002 and 2003 - on Feb. 14 with an 80-70 home win over Indian Land in the first round of the playoffs. Clinton is Region Champion, a #1 seed, the #2 ranked team in the state in AAA (Southside of Greenville is #1) and holder of a 19-3 mark after the first round victory. Four Red Devils scored in double figures - Jalen Carter, 19; Kiah Young, 18; Zay Hurley, 17; Tymori Tribble, 15 (10 of 12 from the free throw line) - but Clinton was outscored 29-25 in the 4th quarter by a spirited and determined Indian Land team. Carter's dunk (final photo) with 47 seconds on the game clock was the final blow that the Warriors could not overcome.
