A Ride To Remember

Posted

More than 300 bicyclists spent July 15-17 pedaling from the mountains to the sea - Simpsonville's Heritage Park to Mount Pleasant's Patriots Point - in A Ride To Remember, the 8th annual benefit for the Alzheimer's Foundation. South Carolina riders have raise $404,545.01 - their goal was $330,000 for the 2016 ride. Their second water stop was in the blacktop parking lot of Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Church on Neely Ferry Road in western Laurens County. The first, "elite" group of riders sped right on past the water stop, but later groups of rider stopped in for water, bananas, orange wedges, watermelon slices and pit stops, mixed with a little fellowship, during their "just getting started" refreshment break. The riders stopped overnight in Newberry and Orangeburg before riding the final 30 miles in a rain storm, and navigating the Ravenel Bridge and the steep slope downward into Mount Pleasant. - Photos by Vic MacDonald/MyClintonNews.com
