A Photo Gallery: Laurens County's Biggest Party

A large crowd braves the rain to revel in college football

Posted

Even if your team is having a great year, a little disappointing year, or a better than it has been in the past year, you had the chance to celebrate one of America's unifying traditions -- College Football -- Thursday night.

The 16th Annual Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Fan Challenge Oyster Roast -- the countywide chamber's signature event - was drizzled on, but most people sat under tents or covered in jackets and had a great time, anyway. Silent and live auctions were held, and mascots got the crowd in the celebration spirit.

The Presbyterian College Cheerleaders helped Chris Justus tell us on-air that it was raining, although his segment's length did challenge stamina of the cheerleaders holding aloft one of their teammates. And, believe it or not, it is Basketball season, so the Blue Hose were handing out Men's and Women's basketball home-game schedules. The PC Baseball Team carried out flawlessly their tradition task of bringing oysters to the tables, and volunteers manned - and woman-ned - the Lowcountry Boil serving line. If you want to, you could cleanse your taste with ice cream. And the beer and wine flowed freely.

This event cannot come off without countless volunteers providing countless hours of effort, and the Chamber expresses its heart-felt thanks to all the sponsors. This event produces some of the funds to continue business-growing efforts throughout Laurens County for years to come.

Thank You, to everyone who participated.

(PS, and just a quick reminder, the Presbyterian College Football Team is on a 2-game winning streak, and they end the regular season at home Nov. 23 against the Butler Bulldogs, AND there's a little matter of the Clemson - Carolina game on Nov. 30. The Touchdown Club lunch on Nov. 21 will be annual rivalry confrontation.)
