OK, so, now it’s our turn.
Coming off a very successful Squealin’ on the Square the first weekend of October in Laurens, our area gets to show off again this weekend with Rhythm on the Rails in Clinton.
The festival celebrates Clinton’s historic and current role as a RR center for South Carolina. People who live here know, you get caught driving by trains all the time. Trains are just a part of our daily lives and, think about it, every time you see a train go through, that’s Commerce.
That’s what drives our Nation.
In Rhythms past, we have had model railroad clubs set up their displays in vacant uptown properties. They get to show the young people the hobby to which some have dedicated their lives.
Mostly, though, Rhythm is just a chance for people to have a good time. Amusement rides are always popular - this Friday afternoon starting at 4 and all day this Saturday. There will be lots of food and vendors to connect with; some of our civic organizations and churches will be there, too.
A special feature: Saturday at 11 a.m., the first performance of the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show (other performances at 1 and 3 p.m.). That should provide lots of fun and thrills.
If you come to the festival Friday evening, don’t judge us too harshly. Lots of our town will be in Greenwood - the hot as a firecracker Clinton High Football Red Devils will be playing Emerald, for a shot at the AAA State Playoffs.
Also, you might see an uptick in cars on South Broad Street - this is Presbyterian College’s Homecoming Weekend, also. President Matt vandenBerg will be inaugurated this Friday morning, and Blue Hose Football takes on visiting San Diego at 1 p.m. in Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Blue Hose also are at home Oct. 30, in NCAA Division I Pioneer Football League competition.
We hope you will come to Clinton this weekend for just a “taste” of our city - we say taste because there’s a BBQ competition that’s also part of Rhythm on the Rails.
You will find that we do not have a downtown bar, like Laurens does - but one’s coming. You could find some hidden gems, like Millers Fork Trail which is not far from the new QT travel center. There won’t be any festivities this weekend at Clinton High School, but if you ride by on Hwy 72 and Springdale Drive, you will see the school of which we are very proud.
You can visit the campus of Presbyterian College, also - come back for a weekend when it’s not so action-packed, if you desire. There, you will find the cultural and educational hub of Laurens County for more than a century. Neville Hall and the Cornelson Center are one of main focus points on campus; come back for a concert sometime, sponsored by our top-notch Music Department.
If you are a business minded person, visit the Clinton Economic Development Corp. website for a look at industrial sites. And, yes, we have storefronts just waiting for your investment in our community. We would appreciate it and value it.
