PC announces creation of Spirit Squad and the addition of coach Anna Catherine English

Presbyterian College and the Blue Hose athletics department announced the creation of the Spirit Squad and the hiring of the Spirit Squad Coach Anna Catherine English.

"We are excited to begin the new initiative, Blue Hose Spirit Squad, that will enhance the game-day environment for basketball games," said Dee Nichols, Presbyterian College Director of Athletics. "Coach English brings a wealth of experience in recruiting, coaching, and game-day operations.  We are excited to see what energy this group will bring to PC Basketball and our community."

The Spirit Squad under the direction of Coach English will cheer at basketball games, select other athletic events, and make public appearances on behalf of Presbyterian College and the Blue Hose athletics department.

The Competitive Cheer Squad under the direction of head coach Lu Steinfeldt will cheer at Presbyterian football games and participate in competitions during the winter and spring seasons. Coach English will assist Coach Steinfeldt with the competitive squad.

"I am honored and thrilled to lead the inaugural spirit squad at Presbyterian College," English said. "The commitment to cheerleading here, coupled with the creation of the spirit squad, solidified my decision to make PC my new home. I look forward to inspiring and elevating the spirit of our community alongside Coach Steinfeldt."

Coach English was the head sideline cheerleading coach at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina for one year. Then, she spent three years as the head cheerleading coach at her alma mater Eastside High School in Taylors, South Carolina. Most recently, she has been the head cheerleading coach, mascot director, and in-game athletics events host at Furman University since 2019.

The Taylors, South Carolina native graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in restaurant and hotel management in 2012.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both male and female students who embody the Blue Hose spirit. While prior cheerleading experience is highly encouraged, we want to emphasize that no minimum skills are required. We are looking for individuals with passion, dedication, and a commitment to fostering school spirit.

Presbyterian will host an in-person informational session for all incoming and interested students for the 2024-2025 school year on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the McIntosh Athletic Center, followed by the opportunity to attend our men's and women's doubleheader basketball games against Radford.
