LETTER: Jones' position is misrepresented

State Rep. Stewart Jones was instrumental in passing the S.C. Heartbeat Bill which bans abortions once a heartbeat is detected. This legislation protected both the life of the mother and baby.

Editor,

In response to the Kevin Bishop campaign letter to the editor, concerning the District 3 candidates for US Congress. This letter, by Mark Leonard, was filled with misinformation and blatant lies. There  is no mention of the death penalty in this bill or any bill that Rep. Stewart Jones has ever written or sponsored. Perhaps Mr Leonard needs to do some research. Rep. Stewart Jones has been a lead sponsor of pro-life legislation with a 100% rating from S.C. Citizens for Life. He was instrumental in passing the S.C. Heartbeat Bill which bans abortions once a heartbeat is detected. This legislation protected both the life of the mother and baby. With the lifting of Roe v Wade with the Dobbs decision, liberal democrats have called pro-life advocates "extremists", even spreading fake news that 'pro-life advocates were trying to give the death penalty to women.' This is completely false. Mr Leonard  and  Mr Bishop need to check the facts.
