The Blue Hose welcome back 16 letterwinners of last season’s team which won a school Division I record 10 games while reaching the semifinals of the Big South Tournament.

“With an attractive non-conference slate, coupled with the competitive Big South conference games, our team is eager for the fall to arrive,” said Finotti, who is entering his first season at the helm of the Blue Hose men’s soccer program.

Arriving at the milestone of 35 years as the director of the Presbyterian College women’s soccer program this fall, head coach Brian Purcell has announced the Blue Hose’s 2023 schedule. Solidified lastTuesday afternoon, PC’s upcoming slate will feature 16 bouts split evenly at eight apiece between home and road designations.

The full list of matches can be viewed in its entirety at gobluehose.com, as Presbyterian continues offseason preparations for their 17th campaign at the NCAA’s Division I level.

“We’re very excited about the layout of our schedule going into this season,” commented Purcell, Presbyterian’s longest-running head coach department-wide who has led the program since its inaugural year in 1989. “Things seem to be shaping up where we’ll have a very competitive non-conference slate that should guide us to Big South play seamlessly. We are particularly eager to compete against Navy at home in addition to some of our traditional rivals outside of Big South territory.”

Taking on Truett McConnell as a pre-’23 tune-up in exhibition format on August 11, the Blue Hose will officially open the lid on the regular season six days later when hosting Furman for a 7 p.m. first touch at Martin Stadium.

The in-state duel will register as the squad’s third consecutive season-opener against the Paladins and seventh time in PC’s Division I history beginning a campaign against their Greenville foe.

Coach Purcell’s unit will hit the road for the first time for match number two on the semester, facing Kennesaw State for the third time in the past five years on August 20.  Presbyterian returns home on the 25th to battle Columbia International before going back to the Peach State for the next encounter, specifically a trip to Atlanta to face Georgia State 48 hours later.

The aforementioned meeting against Navy on the final day of the month will represent the two sides’ first bout since 2010 which will segue into PC’s first sequence of back-to-back visiting roles immediately thereafter. Jacksonville and Davidson will welcome the Blue Hose to their respective sites within the first 10 days of September, the third year in a row going head-to-head with the latter.

Eight matchups outside of Big South action comes to a close on September 14 – which will coincide with Senior Night at Martin Stadium – as PC will check off their first-ever date with Western Carolina.

Another instance of two straight road features will get the Blue Hose off the ground with their league endeavors, traveling to reigning conference tournament champion Radford and UNC Asheville on the 23rd and 27th respectively.

Alumni Day in Clinton will mark the club’s first conference battle to occur on their home turf, jousting with High Point on September 30 before staying in Martin Stadium’s confines four days later for a Gardner-Webb tussle.

PC’s last four contests – all within the Big South’s parameters – will balance between home and away sites, starting with a trip to nearby Winthrop on October 9. Coach Purcell and co. will embark on a week-long rest period before their penultimate Martin Stadium headliner on the 18th versus Charleston Southern.

A shuffle to Spartanburg on October 21 will denote the last occasion away from home for the Blue Hose in the regular season, vying for a spot inside the conference’s top four which means a ticket to the Big South Tournament that will be looming during that USC Upstate clash.

Presbyterian puts a bow on the campaign against Longwood on the 25th, hoping to repeat the result of an overtime victory over the Lancers from four years back.

The conference’s postseason affairs shall begin on November 2 and culminate on the 5th, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament’s field of 64.

PC finished the 2022 slate in eighth place across the Big South, claiming a W in their last two appearances against High Point and UNC Asheville.
