Subcommittee Chairman Duncan Celebrates the Passage of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act

Posted

Washington, D.C.– On Thursday, Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Duncan released the following statement to celebrate the bipartisan passage of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, in the House of Representatives. H.R. 1 contains sixteen separate bills from the Energy and Commerce Committee, including nine bills from the Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee.

“H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, will take bold action to unleash our nation’s energy potential and reverse the Biden Administration’s war on American energy that began on his first day in office. This legislation is a win for all Americans and will address the nation’s energy crisis by reestablishing American energy leadership,” said Congressman Jeff Duncan. “Lowering energy costs is a leading priority because energy is the foundation of everything in American life—when the cost of energy goes up, everything else does too. H.R. 1 will reverse the President’s anti-American energy policies, cut excessive bureaucratic red tape, help to lower global carbon emissions with cleaner American liquefied natural gas (LNG), and increase domestic production to lower costs and restore American energy dominance. Producing more American energy resources will allow us to deliver energy to where it’s needed nationwide and export more clean American natural gas to help our allies break free of the grip of Vladimir Putin’s energy oligarchy and improve the quality of life and standard of living for so many others around the globe.”

“Energy security is national security, and Americans should never have to rely on our adversaries to supply our energy needs. The United States has incredible energy potential with vast reserves of oil, natural gas, and other critical minerals essential for energy dominance. H.R. 1 will allow us to unleash our potential to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy here at home and to our freedom-loving allies worldwide,” said Congressman Jeff Duncan. “H.R. 1 includes my bill, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, as part of sixteen pieces of legislation from the Energy and Commerce Committee. The Republican Majority is delivering solutions to the crises Americans are facing through passing H.R. 1, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bipartisan legislation to lower energy costs and improve the standard of living for Americans.”

Background: H.R. 1 marks the first time in four years that an energy bill has gone through the regular order process, where each Committee has held hearings and markups. H.R. 1 is the culmination of bills passed through the Energy and Commerce, Natural Resources, and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees this Congress. H.R. 1 increases domestic energy production, reforms the permitting process for all industries, reverses anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration, streamlines energy infrastructure and exports, and boosts the production and processing of critical minerals.

Led by Gov. Henry McMaster, 23 Republican Governors Release Statement in Support of Lower Energy Costs Act

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Today, 23 Republican governors led by Governor Henry McMaster released the following joint statement in support of the H.R. 1, the ‘Lower Energy Costs Act’ – a comprehensive measure passed by the U.S. House of Representatives that implements permitting reforms to accelerate key infrastructure construction related to American energy production.

“Americans continue to face record high energy costs, and as governors, we have seen firsthand that action is needed to provide more affordable, reliable, and resilient energy. We applaud the United States House of Representatives for offering real solutions to lower energy costs for all Americans by removing roadblocks and red tape that stand in the way of greater energy production. If the House bill is signed into law, this bill would reverse President Biden’s anti-energy agenda, unshackle energy production, and restore American energy dominance.

“By requiring regular lease sales for oil and gas, removing unnecessary restrictions on the import and export of natural gas, and streamlining permitting processes for energy and infrastructure, House Republicans are offering the country a common-sense solution to today’s energy crisis that will stimulate economic growth while bolstering our national security. It’s past time to stop the attacks on American energy while American families bear the brunt of higher energy costs.”

Signatories to the statement include: Governor Henry McMaster (SC), Governor Kay Ivey (AL), Governor Mike Dunleavy (AK), Governor Sarah Sanders (AR), Governor Brian Kemp (GA), Governor Brad Little (ID), Governor Eric Holcomb (IN), Governor Kim Reynolds (IA), Governor Tate Reeves (MS), Governor Mike Parson (MO), Governor Greg Gianforte (MT), Governor Jim Pillen (NE), Governor Joe Lombardo (NV), Governor Chris Sununu (NH), Governor Doug Burgum (ND), Governor Kevin Stitt (OK), Governor Kristi Noem (SD), Governor Bill Lee (TN), Governor Greg Abbott (TX), Governor Spencer Cox (UT), Governor Glenn Youngkin (VA), Governor Jim Justice (WV), and Governor Mark Gordon (WY).

The bill passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday with a vote of 225-204.
