SC High School League realignment based on 45-day enrollments; Appeals are possible

Posted

South Carolina High school League Announces Proposed Realignment… Yesterday the SCHSL released the proposed realignment of schools for the next two seasons… Basically the schools are being divided based on their enrolment at the 45 day numbers for this school year with the new “3 multiplier rule” for each student attending the school outside its attendance zone… This made a big difference in some of the private and charter schools that play in the SCHSL… For example Gray Colligate which was Class AA is now Class AAAA and both Christ Church and Southside Christian out of the Greenville are also moved up in classification.

  • Clinton… The Red Devils find themselves moving down to the Class AA ranks where they will have the fourth largest attendance in that class… Some other teams in the area that are also Class AA include Strom Thurmond, Chesnee, Saluda, Mid-Carolina, Batesburg-Leesville, Ninety Six and Abbeville which is the smallest AA school by attendance
  • Laurens… The Raiders will remain in Class AAAA… Some other area school that are in Class AAAA include Westside, Fountain Inn, Greer, Berea, Pickens, Daniel, Wren and Emerald HS moves up from Class AAA… Greenwood HS moves up to Class AAAAA

Appeals in January… Now as usual, I feel certain that some schools will want to appeal their classification for various reasons… The school that wish to do so must inform the SCHSL in writing of their plans to appeal by January 9th, 2024 and the SCHSL will handle the appeal process in an already established manor that includes further appeals “up the chain of command” so to say… The final word on the realignment and regions will most likely not be completed before February 22, 2024… Let’s hope the lawyers don’t get involved or we may not know until after that…LOL.
