SLED CHARGES FOREIGN NATIONAL STUDENT WITH KIDNAPPING AND CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT

Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Jaeyeong Yoo, 23, with Kidnapping and Criminal Sexual Conduct – Third Degree on Sunday, February 25, 2024. The SLED investigation was requested by the Presbyterian College Campus Police Department.

Yoo was booked at the Laurens County Detention Center, with no bond set by magistrate. The case will be prosecuted by the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. The suspect’s address is redacted but the city is listed as Clinton.

Affidavit: That on February 24, 2024 in the county of Laurens, one Jaeyeong Yoo did unlawfully confine the movement of the victim (redacted) by grabbing (redacted) arm and preventing (redacted) from leaving the residence hall on Presbyterian College campus. That on or about February 23, 2024, in the county of Laurens, one Jaeyeong Yoo did engage in sexual battery with the victim, (redacted), by digitally penetrating redacted with force. The defendant did this act without the consent of the victim. Based on SLED investigation 34240026. This was all the info available prior to this Chronicle issue’s deadline.

February 26, 2024

On Sunday, February 25, a student reported to Presbyterian College Campus Police that they had been sexually assaulted in Georgia Hall on Friday, February 23. A thorough investigation began immediately, and the alleged assailant was arrested on Sunday evening. They are currently being held without bail.

At Presbyterian College, we take the safety of our community very seriously. Students, faculty, and staff must feel safe, secure, and protected at all costs.
