As a Gold School of Excellence, Thornwell scored in the top 25% of all South Carolina Department of Education middle schools in Math, according to state assessment results.

CLINTON, SC – Thornwell Charter School (Thornwell) will be named a 2021-2022 Charter Institute at Erskine Gold School of Excellence to recognize its academic accomplishments. Members of the Charter Institute at Erskine’s staff will host a celebratory ceremony with students, administration, and staff, and will present the school’s leaders with a commemorative banner at Thornwell on March 16, 2023.

The goal of these School of Excellence celebrations is to show the school community how much the Institute appreciates the school’s hard work and diligence in achieving lofty goals. Thornwell’s middle school program will be named a Gold School of Excellence in Math. As a Gold School of Excellence, Thornwell scored in the top 25% of all South Carolina Department of Education middle schools in Math, according to state assessment results.

Thornwell’s middle school program will also receive a Silver School of Distinction award for outperforming its local school district and demonstrating average growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Additionally, Thornwell’s elementary program will receive a Gold School of Distinction Award for outperforming the local district and demonstrating above average growth in ELA and Math.

Thornwell Charter School is a public, tuition-free charter school that serves students grades K5-6. Thornwell offers each student a personalized academic plan, an individualized health and wellness program, and a life skills program. The life skills program stems from the Teaching Family Association, an evidence-based model that focuses on cognitive, relationships, strength-based behavioral models, and is culturally driven by excellence. Thornwell is authorized through the Charter Institute at Erskine.
